Boudoir Photographer in Folsom | F64 Photography

Boudoir photography for Folsom clients. Folsom Lake, historic Sutter Street, hotels, homes, and American River locations. Based in Sacramento.

Folsom and the Foothills

Folsom is 25 minutes east of Sacramento, sitting right where the Sacramento Valley starts to give way to the Sierra foothills. The geography matters for photography. The terrain gets more interesting out here. Rolling hills, oak-studded grasslands, and the American River cutting through granite on its way to Folsom Lake. The light changes too. There is less haze than in the valley, and the afternoon sun hits at steeper angles that carve out shadows and dimension.

I have shot in Folsom dozens of times over the years, and the area keeps pulling me back because of the location variety packed into a small footprint.

Historic Sutter Street

Folsom’s historic district along Sutter Street has a look you cannot fake. Brick buildings, covered wooden sidewalks, antique shops, and storefronts that date back to the 1860s. I have used the alleyways and doorways along Sutter Street for outdoor boudoir shoots at dawn, before the shops open and the foot traffic starts. The morning light comes in low from the east and rakes across the brick facades. It is a specific look, warm and textured, and it works well when a client wants something with more grit and character than a clean indoor shot.

Folsom Lake and the American River

Folsom Lake is one of the better outdoor boudoir locations in the Sacramento metro if you want water in the frame. The rocky shoreline at Beals Point and the trails along Lake Natoma give you options depending on the season and water level. In late spring, the lake is full and the surrounding hills are green. By late summer, the water drops and exposes more rock, which has its own stark, dramatic quality.

The American River between Folsom Dam and Lake Natoma is a stretch I come back to often. The paved and dirt trails along the south bank pass through cottonwood groves, open meadows, and spots where the river bends and slows down. Privacy depends on the time of day, which is why I schedule outdoor sessions for early morning or the last 90 minutes of daylight.

Hotels in Folsom

The Lake Natoma Inn on Folsom Boulevard is a smaller property with rooms that have character. It is not a chain hotel, and the interiors reflect that. Good window light, warm tones, and a quieter atmosphere than the bigger hotels along East Bidwell. I have also used the Residence Inn and Hilton Garden Inn near the Palladio shopping center when clients want a more modern look.

For hotel boudoir sessions, I handle the scouting. I check in early, evaluate the light in the room, and set up before you arrive. By the time you walk in, everything is ready. Details on session types and pricing are on the services and investment pages.

Film on the American River

The landscape around Folsom is a place where my film cameras do their best work. The warm granite along the river, the deep greens of the cottonwoods, the way afternoon light filters through tree canopy and lands on skin. My 1975 Nikkormat FT2 on Kodak Portra 400 renders those tones with a smoothness and warmth that digital processes differently. The 1957 Hasselblad 500C on medium format film gives me a larger negative with more detail, which matters when clients want big prints.

Film is available as an add-on to any session type. Check the services page for details.

Working with Me from Folsom

Whether you want to shoot at a Folsom hotel, your home, or an outdoor location, the process starts the same way: a conversation. I want to know what you are looking for, what makes you nervous, and what you want to feel when you see your images. That consultation happens over the phone or video, and there is no cost or obligation.

If you want to see what my work looks like, the gallery has recent sessions from hotel, home, and outdoor shoots. When you are ready, reach out through the contact page and we will figure out the right plan for you.
